still catching you up - Sunday, November 1 in Guangzhou

We've had a lovely day today. We started, of course, with the wonderful breakfast buffet at the White Swan. Dani certainly ate her share - french toast, egg, cantaloupe, banana, cake, a taste of yogurt, bread...I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

While the Van G. family headed to Hanna's orphanage for a visit today, we went with the Sanders family and our guide, Simon, to Yuntai Gardens, a beautiful setting for a Sunday - if it wasn't so darn hot and humid. We walked around for a couple of hours. Thank goodness we had borrowed a stroller from one of the stores.

We then headed to Carrefour, much like a Walmart. While Dani slept in my arms in the van, Elliot headed in to get a few things, along with Simon and Bill. An hour later they emerged with diapers, wipes, baby Tylenol and a few more things and we headed back to the hotel.

Dani, Elliot and I then ventured out to do a bit of shopping. I spent too much on an outfit for Dani, but liked the shopkeeper so like my dad tells me - you pay what it's worth to you! I also found two short-sleeved tops for myself which came out to about $8 each - Ralph Lauren, or fake Ralph Lauren, who knows - the point was having something cooler to wear for the next few days!

Dani and I spent nearly 3 hours playing in the hotel's Swan Room today - Elliot joined us for part of it. The Swan Room was designed by Mattel Inc. She was having a great time playing with the toys and seeing other families. Dani was very good at sharing! And she laughed hysterically when Mommy would run to try to get her to run after me. She laughs so hard that she falls down - our drunken sailor.

We just finished dinner in the Japanese restaurant in the hotel, too tired to go anywhere else. Dani had what we believe is probably her first Japanese meal - omelet and rice, edamame, Daddy's noodles, Mommy's miso soup...and that's after eating plenty of Cheerios.
Did we tell you that the only thing Dani hasn't liked so far is broccoli?

She is now playing quietly in the crib while Daddy reviews the video he has taken so far (to delete for more room) and I type this.

Tomorrow Simon heads to the Consulate with our paperwork and I'll wait by the phone starting at 9:30 am in case he has any problems he needs to check with me on. Otherwise, we'll then be meeting him at 1:30 pm to go to a park and a temple where we can get the babies blessed!

We've met several other families here at the White Swan - from South Carolina, California, Michigan, North Carolina and many other places. Each kid is cute....but honestly, we've got the cutest!

Dani has been babbling up a storm and is taking at least about 12 or 14 steps before falling on her bum - she'll be ready to run the Flying Pig by the time we land in Cincinnati. She may have been doing this all before we met her, but it's all new to us since we met her nearly one week ago!

Love to all.

Lynda
